Paprikagryde – a classic Danish recipe with pork tenderloin, bacon and cocktail sausages in a creamy paprika and tomato sauce.
Paprikagryde – Danish paprika pork stew – is a true classic that always goes down well at the dinner table. A creamy, mild and flavourful dish loved by children and adults alike – and one that is easy to make on a weeknight. It is something of a family favourite.
Here it is made with pork tenderloin, but you can just as easily use another cut of pork – or even beef fillet or, say, sirloin, which gives an equally tender and delicious result.
The bacon and mushrooms are fried until lightly crisp and golden before being combined with onion, garlic and red pepper. Then come paprika, tomato purée, chopped tomatoes, stock and cream, which turn into a creamy sauce full of flavour.
Finally, small fried cocktail sausages are stirred into the pot, adding extra substance and making the dish a true family favourite. The result is a warm and inviting stew that can be served with rice, pasta or mashed potatoes – whichever your family likes best.
A classic one-pot stew
Paprikagryde is a proper classic stew – a gently simmered one-pot dish that radiates comfort and family cooking. It is the kind of dish that gathers the whole family around the table, because it is mild in flavour, creamy in texture and full of ingredients that both children and adults love.
It is easy to make, does not require much hands-on time in the kitchen, and it is just as good on an ordinary weeknight as it is for a cosy weekend meal. A warm, filling and child-friendly classic you will keep coming back to.
The dish freezes well if you have any leftovers.
