Caviar tasting – an elegant, simple and delicious way to serve it.
This isn’t a classic recipe – it’s more of an idea, a little tasting journey, and a suggestion for how you can serve caviar simply and elegantly as an appetiser or starter when the occasion calls for something a bit special.
I love serving 3 (or more) different kinds of caviar – ideally on ice cubes so they stay cold and fresh.
It makes for a beautiful presentation and a lovely variation in flavour and texture between the different types of caviar.
Alongside the caviar I serve small blinis, a good rich crème fraîche (38% fat), some finely chopped pickled red onions and finely chopped chives – simple and delicious, and your guests can assemble each bite exactly as they like.
If you’d like to vary things a little, try for example:
– Crispy smashed potatoes
– Mini rösti made in a waffle iron
It’s all about texture and balance – something soft, something crisp, a little richness and a touch of acidity, so the caviar gets to shine.
And best of all, it’s very easy to prepare – yet it tastes and feels like something truly special.
