Butter-fried white bread with ham salad – Canapés with ham salad and pickled red onions

Easy and delicious canapés with ham salad and pickled red onions.
These small, crisp bites are perfect as a nibble to hand round with drinks, an appetiser or a light starter, – they can also be served as part of a tapas spread, or with a glass of white wine in the garden.
The bread is fried in butter in a pan, then topped with a few salad leaves, ham salad and pickled red onions, – simple and very good indeed.
They taste wonderful and take no time at all to make.

A perfect appetiser for parties and New Year’s Eve
Butter-toasted bread with ham salad makes a perfect New Year’s Eve canapé, – the bread rounds can be made ahead, and so can the ham salad. Then all that’s left is to assemble them when the guests arrive.
They are of course also excellent as little bites for birthdays, graduation parties or any other celebration.

Method

  • Put the ham in a mini chopper or similar and blitz until finely chopped. Alternatively, chop it finely with a knife.
  • Mix the ham with the remaining ingredients and season to taste with salt and pepper.
  • Cut out 12 rounds from the bread slices, about 4 cm in diameter.
  • Melt a little butter in a frying pan over medium heat and fry the bread rounds until crisp and golden on both sides, – about 3 min. per side.
Then leave them to rest on a little kitchen paper, – until they have cooled.
  • Top the bread rounds with salad leaves of your choice, then ham salad and drained pickled red onions. Finish with cress and freshly ground pepper.

  1. Jeg kan ikke få armene ned – det smager bare så godt. Ingen tvivl om hvad der skal serveres som forret næste gang jeg skal have gæster.
