Strawberry Margarita – a fresh summer cocktail with lime and sweet, ripe strawberries.
Strawberry Margarita is a lovely, summery take on the classic margarita – fresh, fruity and with the perfect balance of sweetness and acidity.
It is made with fresh, sun-ripened strawberries that are sprinkled with sugar and left to macerate so they release their juice and natural sweetness. They are then muddled and shaken with ice, tequila, Cointreau and freshly squeezed lime, which gives a cocktail that is full of flavour and wonderfully refreshing.
The result is a delicious, easy-drinking summer cocktail in which the sweet strawberries pair perfectly with the fresh acidity of the lime – and the alcohol is nicely balanced.
Do use a good tequila – it really makes a difference to the flavour. The classic bottle with the little sombrero on top can’t quite keep up here if you want a cocktail that tastes really good.
A fresh, inviting cocktail that is just right for warm summer days and relaxed evenings in the sun.
Strawberry Margarita
Ingredients
- 80 g fresh strawberries, diced
- 1 tsp sugar
- 4 cl tequila
- 2 cl Cointreau or other orange liqueur
- 2 cl freshly squeezed lime juice
- Salt or Tajín for the rim
- Fresh strawberries
Method
- Put the strawberries and sugar in a bowl. Stir together and leave to macerate for about 15 minutes. The strawberries will release their juice and be easier to muddle.
- Tip the strawberries and their juice into a shaker and crush them with a muddler.
- Fill the shaker right up with ice cubes and pour in the tequila, Cointreau and lime juice.
- Close the shaker and shake the cocktail until the shaker is thoroughly chilled and a thin layer of frost forms on the outside – only then is your cocktail ready to serve.
- Run a little lime around the rim of a glass and sprinkle with salt or Tajín. Fill the glass with ice cubes and pour your Strawberry Margarita over.
- Garnish with strawberries before serving.
