The short answer is, – it depends entirely on what you like – and which resort you are staying at 🙂
At The Standard we had booked a beach villa with a private pool and direct access to the crystal-clear sea. After a week, though, we decided to ask whether we could move to an overwater villa to try it out. The staff at the hotel were extremely kind, and we were allowed to change rooms, – at no extra cost, as the overwater villa was cheaper.
It was a wonderful experience. Simply so beautiful, – the fish life on the seabed, and quite something to be living on the water, with glass set into parts of the bathroom floor so you could look down at the fish and so on.

So after a day and a night on the water, we were allowed to move back again , – and that was just as it should be. Lovely to be back living on the beach, – the air, the greenery and simply the view as a whole, wow.
And this shouldn’t sound as if there is no access to the beach for those staying in overwater villas, because of course there is.
On our trip to Angsana Velavaru we also moved into an overwater villa, and that was an entirely different experience. You can read about it here.
