Overnight oats with cocoa, vanilla and fresh berries – easy, filling and a really good way to start the day. Top them with plenty of fresh berries and a couple of tablespoons of granola – mmm.
Overnight oats with cocoa taste wonderful – they are very easy to make, and as the name suggests, you put them in the fridge in the evening and breakfast is ready the next morning. They can get by with just a couple of hours in the fridge, but personally I think a night in the fridge does something really good for the texture.
Overnight oats are soft and creamy – and you can top them with exactly what you like best.
Also perfect as breakfast or lunch on the go.
Inspiration for your overnight oats
I always use jumbo oats for my overnight oats – they give the porridge a good texture and bite. Personally I find that finer porridge oats go too soft and mushy – but do as you prefer.
You can eat your overnight oats after a couple of hours in the fridge, but ideally leave them overnight.
Overnight oats keep in the fridge for 4-5 days, as long as all the ingredients are fresh. I prefer to make only enough for 2 days at a time, though.
Overnight oats with cocoa
Ingredients
- 250 ml jumbo oats (finer porridge oats can also be used)
- 2 tbsp chia seeds
- 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tsp vanilla sugar
- 250 ml milk
- 100 ml Greek yogurt, skyr or similar
- 2 tbsp maple syrup, honey or similar
- 1 pinch salt
Toppings
- 2 handfuls fresh berries
- 4 tbsp granola – click here for the recipe
Method
- Combine the oats, chia seeds, vanilla sugar, cocoa powder, salt, maple syrup or honey, yogurt and milk in a bowl and stir well. Cover with a lid and refrigerate for at least 2-3 hours – but ideally overnight. You can also mix the ingredients directly in 2 serving glasses or jars with lids – make sure there is enough room for the topping the next day. That makes it easy to take with you on the go, or simply to grab a glass in the morning or for a quick lunch.
- Before serving, give your overnight oats a good stir, divide them between 2 serving glasses and top with plenty of fresh berries and a couple of tablespoons of granola.
Worth knowing about overnight oats
- Overnight oats keep for 4-5 days in the fridge – make sure all the ingredients are fresh.I prefer to make enough for 1-2 days at a time – they are so quick to stir together, and that way I can vary the flavours.
- I recommend using jumbo oats – they give the porridge a lovely texture and bite. Finer porridge oats can, to my taste, turn a little too mushy – but of course that is a matter of personal preference.

Hej JB
Ej hvor dejligt at høre – tusind tak for din skønne besked 🙂
Rigtig dejlig dag 🙂

mega lækker!! personligt kan jeg godt lide lidt mere choko/kakao-smag, så jeg puttede lidt mere kakao i, og det var fuldstændig fantastisk! kan klart anbefales, spiser det hver dag 🙂 <3
Hej Johanne
