Chilli garlic prawns cooked in the air fryer – a Spanish classic that tastes heavenly.
In just 15 minutes you can have a dish of gambas al ajillo on the table – perfect as tapas, as a starter or for a light lunch.
In the air fryer it takes no time at all to cook a batch of garlic prawns – and the butter mixture itself can conveniently be made in the air fryer too.
Serve the prawns with warm baguettes – dipping the bread in the buttery juices from the prawns is a treat in itself.
A crisp salad also goes very well with the garlic prawns, and I like to put a creamy dill dressing on the table alongside.
If you are serving the garlic prawns as a main course, I would recommend 1 kg of prawns (weight with shells on), served with bread and salad.
Serving suggestions for gambas al ajillo
As mentioned above, I always serve my garlic prawns with warm baguettes, and often a crisp salad too.
Dip the bread in the butter mixture – it is quite wonderful.
There is also always a bowl of cold dill dressing on the table at our house when garlic prawns are on the menu.

Gambas al ajillo in the air fryer
Ingredients
- 600 g raw tiger prawns, king prawns or similar (weight with shells on)
- 8 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
- 2 handfuls parsley, finely chopped
- 1 red chilli – adjust to taste
- 100 g butter
- 100 ml olive oil
- Salt and pepper
Method
- Peel and clean the prawns – make sure to remove the dark vein along both the back and the underside. Pat them dry with a little kitchen paper.
- Put the garlic and chilli in an ovenproof dish that fits in the air fryer, slice the butter and lay the slices on top, then pour over the oil.*The dish you use must be large enough to hold all the prawns.
- Heat the butter mixture through for 5 minutes at 185°C.*You can also make the butter mixture in a saucepan if you prefer.
- Add the parsley, stir it in and heat for another minute at 185°C.Season with freshly ground pepper and a little salt.
- Toss the prawns in the butter and oil mixture and cook them for 6 minutes at 185°C.
- Serve the prawns with freshly baked baguettes for dipping in the butter mixture, a crisp salad or similar.
Så nem og lækker ret. Vi vender ofte frisk pasta i rejerne, så det mætter lidt mere

Warm wishes, Dianna
Ser spændende ud, kan opskriften ikke laves på en pande eller grill -nu når man ikke har en airfreyer?
Hej Bodil
Du kan sagtens tilberede dem i grill, ovn eller endda over blus 🙂
Warm wishes, Dianna
Virkelig nemt og mega lækkert
Vil dog prøve at udskifte noget af smør eller olien med hvidvin næste gang, for at gøre den lidt “lettere”
Hej Pia
Tak for de søde ord, – det er jeg glad for at høre:)
