Are you looking for an easy, flavourful recipe for skewers on the barbecue?
These skewers with thinly sliced flank steak are an excellent choice. The meat is cut into thin slices and threaded tightly on to skewers – preferably flat ones, so the meat doesn’t spin round during cooking.
Season the meat with salt and freshly ground pepper, or make a marinade with fresh herbs for extra flavour. Barbecue or pan-fry the skewers until the meat is cooked exactly the way you like it.
These beef skewers are easy to make and perfect for relaxed summer barbecues – a beef skewer that gives a wonderful result.
Serve them with a fresh salad, grilled vegetables or your favourite sides for a complete and satisfying dinner.
Flank steak skewers – Beef skewers with flank steak
Ingredients
- 1 flank steak, approx. 600 g
- Salt and freshly ground pepper
- A little oil, if needed
Method
- Cut the meat into strips about 4 cm wide, then cut each strip into thin slices – about 4-5 mm.
- Stack the slices tightly together and divide them between 4 skewers. Flat skewers are best, as they are the easiest to control.
- Press the meat firmly together – this stops it drying out as it cooks.
- Season with salt and freshly ground pepper, and pan-fry or barbecue the skewers for about 2-3 minutes on each side. If you like, also sear the 2 flat sides briefly to get a good crust. Use a little oil if needed. The cooking time depends on how you like your meat done and how tightly you have pressed it together. The more tightly it is pressed, the better it holds on to its juices and its red or pink centre. You can easily fold the meat apart slightly to check how it is cooked.
- Serve the skewers with your choice of sides.
