These dumpling smash tacos are an exciting twist that brings together the best of Asian cooking and the crisp tacos we love. Here they are filled with juicy minced chicken and fresh pointed cabbage, giving a lovely balance of savoury spice and fresh crunch.
The tacos are topped with a homemade dumpling sauce and crunchy vegetables to round off the flavours. It is a dish that is both easy to make and full of flavour – perfect for weeknight dinners and for when you want to treat your guests.
Try it as a different and inspiring way to serve tacos.
Dumpling smash tacos with chicken
Ingredients
The chicken mixture
- 600 g minced chicken
- 2 cloves garlic, grated or crushed
- 1 tbsp grated ginger
- 2 spring onions, finely sliced
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- Freshly ground pepper
To assemble and serve
- 8 mini tortillas
- 1 portion dumpling sauce – click here for the recipe
- Pointed cabbage, finely shredded also sold as sweetheart or hispi cabbage
- Carrots, grated or cut into batons
- Spring onions, finely sliced
Method
- Combine the ingredients for the chicken mixture and mix well.
- Divide the mixture into portions of about 75 g each, and press each portion out onto a tortilla so it covers the whole tortilla. Prepare them all before you start frying.
- Heat a splash of oil in a frying pan and fry them for a couple of minutes over a good high heat, – meat side down. Press them down firmly with a palette knife or similar for the first little while. Depending on the size of your pan, you can fry one or two at a time.
- Turn them over and fry them on the tortilla side for a minute or so. Set them aside, and if you like, keep them warm in the oven at about 80°C until they are all done.
- Top the warm tacos with dumpling sauce, shredded pointed cabbage, grated carrot and spring onions.
