A fresh cabbage salad with red pointed cabbage, kale, orange and walnuts – perfect with Christmas dinner or any other meat dish.
This pointed cabbage salad is fresh and slightly tangy, and it goes perfectly with rich Christmas food – it always has a place on our Christmas table.
It is incredibly simple and can be thrown together in no time – and it only gets better from sitting in the dressing for an hour or so (or longer).
You can also use red cabbage for this salad – personally, though, I prefer red pointed cabbage, as it is finer in both flavour and texture. Red cabbage can be quite tough in texture and bitter in flavour.
Leftover salad is wonderful in this duck burger with confit duck – click here, or in a Danish roast pork (flæskesteg) burger – click here for the recipe.
Cabbage salad for Christmas dinner
In our house, a fresh cabbage salad with the Christmas dinner is a must. It is fresh and crisp – a lovely contrast to the heavy Christmas food.
You can make this cabbage salad with orange and walnuts ahead of time – it will happily sit in the fridge for 2-3-4 hours, whatever suits you best.
Don’t forget a classic homemade braised red cabbage – click here for the recipe.
