Puff pastry tart filled with ham, flavoured cream cheese and mozzarella. A ham plait – a lovely classic that is really easy to make.
Puff pastry is wonderful for tarts. It is easy to work with, and it simply tastes so good.
A puff pastry plait can be served on its own with a good salad, or as part of a buffet, on the tapas table, at the Christmas lunch, for dinner or for lunch.
It can be on the table in under 30 minutes and can be served either warm or cold. Personally I prefer it warm, when the mozzarella is gooey and stringy.
How to cut the puff pastry for a ham plait
In the picture below the recipe you can see how I cut the puff pastry when it is to be plaited around the filling.
It is hard to explain properly in words, so it is easiest just to show it with a picture.
Above the recipe there is a video where you can see how I fold the puff pastry around the filling.
I hope both will help you make a beautiful, delicious ham plait – or a puff pastry plait with a different filling.
Puff pastry plait with ham and cheese
Ingredients
- 1 roll ready-rolled puff pastry
- 80 g flavoured cream cheese e.g. garlic and herb or pepper-flavoured
- 80 g sliced ham
- 100 g grated mozzarella
- Salt and pepper
- Sesame seeds
Method
- Unroll the puff pastry on a sheet of baking paper.
- The filling goes down the middle of the pastry, so cut diagonal strips into the pastry from the edge until you are 1/3 of the way in across the sheet. Do this on both sides.See the picture just below the recipe.
- Spread the cream cheese down the middle, top with half the mozzarella, then the ham, and finally the rest of the mozzarella on top.Season with a little salt and freshly ground pepper.
- Fold the ends of the pastry in over the filling, then fold the strips in over the filling, alternating from side to side – one at a time.See the video above the recipe if you need to.
- Brush the top with a beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
- Bake the plait in a preheated conventional oven (top and bottom heat) at 200°C for about 20 minutes.
- Leave it to rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Tak for mega mange virkelig lækre opskrifter……
Hej Marianne
Hej Kai
Tusind tak for din besked 🙂
Hejsa
Fantastisk – tak for feedback 🙂
Warm wishes, Dianna
