Protein bagels with Greek yoghurt – an easy no-knead, no-rise recipe with just 4 ingredients.
Protein bagels with Greek yoghurt are a genuinely easy and quick recipe for homemade bagels that need neither lengthy kneading nor proving. The dough is made with just four ingredients – Greek yoghurt, plain flour, baking powder and salt – and comes together in a few minutes.
Start by bringing the dough together in a bowl, stirring the ingredients until they begin to clump together. Then knead it very briefly on the worktop before dividing it into four pieces. Shape these into balls and then into bagels by simply making a hole in the middle and shaping them gently with your hands. Remember to make the hole a little larger than you think you need, as the bagels rise in the oven.
Before baking, brush them with beaten egg and, if you like, top them with sesame seeds, poppy seeds, sunflower seeds or other seeds. The result is light, airy bagels with a good chew – filling, and rich in protein from the yoghurt.
They are perfect for breakfast, in a packed lunch, as a quick snack or for picnics and days out. The bagels keep fresh for several days and freeze well too. I often make a double batch while I’m at it – they disappear quickly.
A really easy and delicious recipe for when you want fresh bagels in next to no time.
Protein Bagels with Greek Yoghurt – Only 4 Ingredients
Ingredients
- 250 g Greek yoghurt or skyr skyr is a thick, Icelandic-style strained yoghurt
- 200 g plain flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Beaten egg for brushing + toppings, if you like
Method
- Mix the Greek yoghurt, plain flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl and stir with a spatula until the dough comes together in small clumps.
- Tip it out onto the worktop, bring the dough together with your hands and knead it briefly until all the clumps are worked into the dough.
- Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and press it gently flat, make a hole in the middle and shape into bagels. Dampen your hands with a little water if you like – it makes the dough easier to work with.
- Place them on a sheet of baking paper, brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds, poppy seeds or bagel seasoning, if you like.
- Bake in a preheated conventional oven (top and bottom heat) at 200°C for about 20-22 minutes – or until golden and baked through.
- Store them in an airtight bag at room temperature and they will stay soft and moist for a couple of days. Ideally, pack them while they are still warm.
hvor længe holder de sig friske uden at jeg fryser dem ned?:)
Kan man anvende neutral skyr i stedet for græsk yoghurt?
Hej Marianne
Ja det kan du i hvert fald 🙂
Warm wishes, Dianna
Warm wishes, Dianna
