Overnight oats with cinnamon and pears – topped with almonds and honey.
Overnight oats, or fridge porridge as it is also known, are an easy and delicious way to make porridge. You mix everything the day before and leave it to soak in the fridge overnight. The next morning you have a creamy porridge ready to top exactly as you like.
It is a perfect way to start the day, but it also works well for a quick lunch, lunch on the go, or in smaller portions as a snack between meals.
This version tastes wonderful. I stir cubes of fresh pear into the oats before serving and top them with extra pear, almonds and honey. It tastes so good – fresh, crisp and creamy.
The creamy cinnamon oats with chia seeds, the crisp pears and the crunchy nuts make a really good combination of both textures and flavours.
I have several lovely overnight oats recipes on the blog – click here.

Method
Overnight oats with pear and cinnamon
Day 1
- Combine the oats, chia seeds, cinnamon, vanilla sugar, salt, honey, yogurt and milk in a bowl and stir well. Cover with a lid and chill in the fridge for at least 2-3 hours – but ideally overnight.
Day 2
- Stir half of the pear cubes into the overnight oats and divide the porridge between 2 glasses. You can of course also leave the oats in the bowl and help yourself as you go – in that case I would recommend not stirring in the pears until just before serving.
- Top the oats with extra pear cubes, chopped almonds and honey. In the photo I have also decorated with pear slices – do as you prefer.
Worth knowing about overnight oats
- Overnight oats keep for 4-5 days in the fridge – provided all the ingredients are fresh. Hold off stirring in any fruit until just before serving.Personally I think they are best within the first 2 days – and since they are so easy to make, I never make more than 2 days’ worth at a time.
- I recommend using jumbo rolled oats – they give the porridge a really good consistency and texture. To my taste, regular porridge oats can turn a little too mushy – but that is of course a matter of personal preference.
