Advertisement // I have had a lovely little collaboration with Masi, and as part of it I was given the chance to taste some of their superb wines.
This Amarone is well worth trying – it tastes wonderful and lends itself to a wide range of pairings.
You can see a little of their range here.
A little about the wine
A superb Amarone from Masi – the producer calls it majestic and complex, and there is good reason for that. The wine has an intense dark red colour; it is full-bodied and well balanced – a thoroughly impressive tasting experience if you ask me. This Amarone is made using the appassimento method, in which the grapes are dried on bamboo racks over the winter to develop an intense, full aroma. In this wine you will find flavours and aromas of dark cherry, plum, gentle coffee and chocolate – a rich, deep wine.
It is made from Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara, all grapes from the Valpolicella area.
Serving suggestion
With this Amarone I served a steak of dry-aged rib of beef, topped with plenty of winter truffle and served with a creamy potato gratin with truffle.
With its body and power, the wine can stand up to dishes with plenty of flavour and depth, richness and intensity. It is a perfect choice for dark meat, warm, spiced slow-cooked dishes and strong cheeses, but it is also lovely enjoyed after dinner, entirely on its own – beautiful as it is.
What I love most is the intensity the wine has while remaining round and full without being heavy: a wine I will undoubtedly be buying again whenever the plan is simply to spoil family and friends.
Det er bare en fantastisk vin, som alle burde prøve.
