The ultimate burger: a spiced beef patty, creamy feta-tzatziki and marinated vegetables. The perfect choice if you, like me, love Greek cooking and its flavours.
Packed with flavour, deliciously messy, crisp and completely irresistible.
The vegetables are marinated in a classic Greek salad dressing, and the patty is seasoned like Greek meatballs – a dish with bold flavour and plenty of substance.
And not forgetting the tzatziki – this one is blended with plenty of feta, which makes it rich and gives the burger just the right flavour.
If you love Greek food too, this one is for you. Also try my Greek flatbreads with Greek meatballs and tzatziki and my recipe for Greek salad.
Greek Burger
Ingredients
Burger
- 500 g minced beef
- 80 g feta, crumbled
- 1 handful flat-leaf parsley, finely chopped
- 1/2 chilli, finely chopped (seeds removed)
- 2 cloves garlic, grated or crushed
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp ground coriander
- Salt and pepper
- 4 burger buns – click here for the recipe for homemade brioche buns
- Oil for frying
Feta-tzatziki
- 1 large cucumber
- 400 g Greek yoghurt
- 100 g feta
- 2-3 cloves garlic, finely grated
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1-2 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
- Salt and pepper
Marinated vegetables
- 4 handfuls rocket
- 2 tomatoes, sliced
- 1/4 cucumber, thinly sliced
- 1 red onion, cut into rings
- 1 handful flat-leaf parsley, finely chopped
- 50 ml olive oil
- 1 clove garlic, finely grated
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tsp good dark balsamic vinegar
- 1 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp honey
- 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard
- Salt and pepper
Method
Feta-tzatziki
- Coarsely grate the cucumber and squeeze out as much liquid as possible. Put the cucumber in a sieve, season with a little salt – roughly the amount you would want in the dressing – and toss it with your hands. Leave the cucumber to drain for about 15 min., squeezing out more liquid a few times as it sits.
- Meanwhile, mix the ingredients for the dressing – stir the yoghurt together with the crumbled feta, garlic, olive oil and lemon juice. Then fold in the cucumber and season the dressing with pepper and a little more salt if it needs it. Leave it in the fridge until serving – ideally about an hour.
Marinated vegetables
- Mix the ingredients for the marinade and toss the tomato slices, onion rings and cucumber in it. Leave them to marinate while you make the patties. The rocket should not be tossed in the marinade.
Burger
- Mix the ingredients for the patties, season with salt and pepper, and stir well to combine.
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal pieces and shape them into patties.
- Fry them in a little oil in a hot pan, or cook them on the barbecue. At home we prefer them pink in the middle, but cook them to your liking.
- Warm the burger buns, then assemble your burgers.Spread the bottom halves with feta-tzatziki and add a little freshly ground pepper. Add a handful of rocket, then the marinated tomatoes. Top with the patties, the marinated cucumber and onion rings, and finish with the top halves, also spread with feta-tzatziki.
