A deliciously messy pizza topped with the classic filling from a Sloppy Joe burger.
Spicy, barbecue-seasoned meat sauce and plenty of cheddar — simple as can be, and wonderfully sloppy.
If you love a Sloppy Joe burger, you are going to love this pizza.
Top it with finely chopped fresh spring onions and perhaps some fresh jalapeños; they bring a lovely freshness to the pizza.

Method
Sloppy Joe filling
- Heat a little oil in a saucepan and sauté the onion, pepper and garlic for a couple of minutes.
- Add the beef and brown it well, then season with salt and pepper.
- Pour in the barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, mustard and chilli sauce and heat through thoroughly. Do not let it "reduce" — it should stay nice and sloppy.
- Season to taste with salt and pepper, turn off the heat and leave the filling to stand while you roll out the pizza bases.
The pizzas
- Divide the dough into 4 and roll out into thin rounds about 30 cm in diameter.
- Scatter half the cheddar over the bases, then top with the Sloppy Joe filling and sprinkle the rest of the cheddar over the filling.*I brushed the outer edges of the pizzas with a thin layer of barbecue sauce. You can also use ordinary pizza sauce, or leave it out altogether.
- Bake the pizzas in a preheated oven (conventional, top and bottom heat) at 250°C for about 12-15 min, until crisp and golden. Keep an eye on them: ovens vary.
- Serve the pizzas with a scattering of finely chopped spring onions and, if you like, finely chopped fresh jalapeños.

Warm wishes, Dianna
