The place and the concept
It was our first visit to Sletten Bådeklub this year, and we were met by genuinely lovely staff, young, cheerful people who know what they are doing. Kabyssen is the boat club's own eatery, the building stands on stilts out in the water at Sletten Havn in Humlebæk, and the place is run by the same owners as Restaurant Strejf in Helsingør. Inside, pennants from sailing clubs hang from the ceiling, and there is a view over the Øresund from the tables.
The concept is informal and no-frills. You go up to the bar and order, take your own cutlery and drinks down to the table, and when you have finished, you clear your own table and put everything out for washing up. Now you know ;-) It is relaxed, cosy and very reasonably priced.
Note. According to the rules you need to be a member of a sailing club to get in, but we have never been asked to show ID or any documentation.
The lunch
We had a pariserbøf and two pieces of smørrebrød (open-faced rye bread sandwiches), and my word, it was seriously good. Proper homemade food, beautifully presented and really excellent value for money.
The pariserbøf at 195 kr. was the most expensive dish on the menu and came with all the classic accompaniments: egg yolk, beetroot, capers, red onion, pickles and grated horseradish. Proper, homemade and handsomely plated.
The highlight of the day, though, was the fried plaice with tartare sauce at 115 kr. This was a genuinely home-breaded fish fillet, not a shop-bought one simply dropped into the fryer, and you could taste the difference. The chicken salad at 96 kr. was classic smørrebrød on Danish rye bread (rugbrød), proper and homemade, and very good for the price.
With the food we shared a bottle of rosé from Provence at 275 kr. and had two sparkling waters at 66 kr. in total.
Price and standard
The bill came to 747 kr. in total for pariserbøf, two pieces of smørrebrød, a bottle of rosé and two sparkling waters. That is really excellent value, and there was honestly nothing to fault about the lunch. You just need to know that you fetch and clear away yourself, and in return the prices reflect that.
Incidentally, we have also eaten there in the evening. The evening menu has fewer options; the food was good, but it was a very busy evening, we waited a fair while, and some things had sold out. So the evening was not quite on a par with the lunch, and it is the lunch that is the reason we are so enthusiastic.
We will definitely be going back to Sletten Bådeklub. The lunch of pariserbøf and smørrebrød is a really strong option if you want good, homemade food at a very fair price with the Øresund right outside the window. Warmly recommended from us, and do get in touch on Instagram if you have any questions about the dishes. (Not sponsored)
