Slaktaren in Lomma, the butcher's that is still the best place to eat in town

Slaktaren in Lomma – goodness, how we love that place. We have been before, and after our return visit this summer it is still, without question, our favourite in town. Kind and skilled people, outstanding meat and a lovely terrace on the square – it is hard to ask much more of a summer evening.

Atmosphere and setting

Slaktaren sits on a small square in the middle of Lomma and is genuinely also a butcher's shop, where you can buy charcuterie and meat to take home. The concept in the restaurant is that you choose a good cut of meat and put together your own sides, and beyond that there are also perfectly ordinary dishes on the menu. The set-up actually reminds us a little of Mash in Denmark, just with a butcher's counter at one end of the room.

We sat outside on the terrace on the square, and it is a remarkably handsome spot. We had been here before, so we knew what we were in for, and yet we were just as taken with it this time. If there has to be a small but, it is the location. The square is charming, but had the place been down by the harbour, it would have been magical.

What we ate

We started with marinated olives at 75 SEK and a board of 65 grams of charcuterie at 145 SEK, and alongside we shared a bottle of Sancerre Blanc from Jolivet at 855 SEK. The girls had Loka with lemon, Cola Zero and Sprite at 39 SEK each, so everyone was well set from the start.

Then came the meat. We had bone-in entrecôte at 695 SEK and Iberico pluma at 365 SEK, and here I have to say it plainly. The pluma is underrated. It was wonderfully good and the clear highlight of the evening among the three cuts. Everything was cooked to perfection, and that is, after all, what you come to a butcher's for.

To finish we had a chocolate fondant at 135 SEK, and with coffee an Irish coffee at 159 SEK and an espresso martini at 140 SEK. And so we sat there under the heat lamps on the square and soaked it all up – simply lovely.

The children's menu

The girls had the children's steak, a beef fillet medallion Bern at 195 SEK, and we ordered extra chips at 65 SEK, because those always disappear fast. It is a very well-thought-out children's menu, and for dessert they had the children's ice cream at 85 SEK. So if you have children with you, Slaktaren is a place where everyone leaves happy.

Service

Excellent service all the way through. We sat down outside on the terrace, and the heaters were switched on straight away without us having to ask. It is the kind of small thing that puts you at ease immediately. Honestly, there was nothing that didn't work that evening.

Price and value

The bill came to 3.031 SEK for the whole party, with a bottle of Sancerre, snacks, three meat dishes, dessert, children's ice cream and two drinks with coffee. Did we get value for money? Yes, very much so. It is not cheap, but the quality of the meat is so high that we think the price is entirely fair. And none of us got up from the table feeling we had paid too much.

Our recommendation

Slaktaren is still our clear favourite in Lomma, and it is no coincidence that we keep coming back. The meat is outstanding, the people are kind, and the terrace on the square is a delightful place to sit on a summer evening. We will certainly be back, and next time it will probably be the pluma for every adult at the table. Our warmest recommendation.

Tip: Book well in advance, sit on the terrace if the weather allows, and don't pass up the Iberico pluma.
