Baked gnocchi with meat sauce and plenty of cheese, – gooey, indulgent and good.
We love gnocchi in our house, and baked with a batch of meat sauce and a generous amount of cheese, – it really is a huge favourite.
I buy my gnocchi at the supermarket, but you can of course make your own if you prefer.
You can make the meat sauce following the recipe below, or make the dish with leftover meat sauce if you happen to have some, – it is a really good way to use up leftovers.
Serve it on its own, or with a good salad and bread.

Baked gnocchi bolognese – Baked gnocchi with meat sauce
Ingredients
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, grated or crushed
- 1 large carrot, cut into small dice
- 1 stalk celery, cut into small dice
- 500 g minced beef
- 3 tbsp tomato purée
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
- 1/2 tsp dried rosemary
- 1 tin chopped tomatoes 400 g
- 200 ml beef stock
- 500 g gnocchi
- 150 g grated mozzarella
- 80 g Parmesan, grated
- Salt and pepper
- Oil
- Fresh basil, optional
Method
- Heat a little oil in a saucepan and sauté the onion, garlic, carrot and celery over a medium heat for a couple of minutes.
- Add the minced beef and brown it well. Season with salt and pepper.
- Add the dried herbs and tomato purée and cook for a couple of minutes, then pour in the chopped tomatoes and the stock. Let the sauce simmer gently for about 30 minutes. If you have the time, the meat sauce can happily simmer for 1 hour or more. In that case, just add a little of the cooking water from the gnocchi before assembling the dish. The meat sauce should be soft in consistency – not too dry and not too wet.Season to taste with salt and pepper.
- Cook the gnocchi according to the packet instructions and drain well.
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce over the base of an ovenproof dish, an ovenproof frying pan or similar. Then layer the gnocchi, cheeses and meat sauce in 2-3 layers.
- Bake in a preheated conventional oven (top and bottom heat) at 225°C for about 15 minutes.
- Leave the dish to rest for 5-8 minutes before serving. Top with fresh basil, parsley or similar and a little freshly ground pepper.

Wauw. Mums
Lækker smag, cremet og lækkert.
Hej Anne Marie
