Day 4 of 6 · Thursday 9 January 2025
The only day with real sunshine. Our only day ashore. And a lunch at Crazy Frog we will never forget.
“Good morning. We are now docked at Puerta Maya, Cozumel. Local time is one hour behind ship’s time — please adjust your watches. Weather today is sunny, 30 degrees Celsius, with light trade winds. All aboard is 17:30 sharp. Have a wonderful day in Mexico.”
— Captain Matko Candric
We docked at around 8 o’clock — the only day with real sun and warmth. As Haven guests we were among the first ashore. Passports and key cards — nothing else. Instead of a ship excursion we chose to explore on our own: a walk along the quay, a local café, and time for the girls to hunt for souvenirs.

The atmosphere at Puerta Maya is friendly and relaxed — the area around the pier is touristy, but walk 10 minutes further and you find the real Cozumel: taco stands, quiet streets, music. We went to a beach bar close to the port, then wandered around town, browsed the small shops and soaked up the atmosphere. Did we feel safe? Absolutely.

For lunch we ended up at Crazy Frog. And yes, it was crazy. Techno vibes, a party crowd, loud music and an energy that doesn’t exactly scream “child-friendly”. But we had the children with us, and the staff looked after them wonderfully. They even made kids’ shots for the girls (alcohol-free, naturally).
It wasn’t planned. It wasn’t elegant. But it was fun. And sometimes it is precisely the slightly crazy places you remember best.

The duty-free shop on the pier is an experience in itself. I came away with a bottle of Don Julio 1942 for just under 1,000 Danish kroner — a price I can’t find in Denmark. Alcohol bought ashore is sealed and delivered to your cabin the evening before you disembark at the final port.

One of our most unusual restaurant experiences was at Moderno Churrascaria. The waiters circulate with large skewers — picanha, filet mignon, parmesan-crusted chicken. A big salad bar, beans, rice and Pão de Queijo. Dessert: Coconut Flan.
