Höganäs - A wonderful harbour & town in Sweden

Höganäs - A wonderful harbour & town in Sweden

Höganäs was our second stop on the trip – and, as it turned out, our third as well 😉

Höganäs harbour is one of the larger harbours we have visited, and we moored at one of their floating pontoons – lovely to be able to step straight ashore without clambering around the boat.

For the first three days the weather was poor once again: cold, windy, 16 degrees and rain. We spent most of the time on the boat with board games and a cosy atmosphere – and otherwise went out for lunch and dinner at the harbour.

The town has a charming pedestrian street – rather quiet, in fact, considering how many people there were down at the harbour.

There is a grocery shop less than a kilometre from the harbour, and there you will also find a lovely bakery, the Systembolaget (the Swedish state off-licence), restaurants and shopping.

At the harbour there are plenty of activities for both children and adults.

There is a lovely minigolf course, a water park with slides in the sea, and the option to borrow or hire skateboards and other activity equipment.

On top of that there is a playground, a football pitch, outdoor gym equipment and much more.

The showers and toilets at the harbour are fine, though there are only two in each of the men’s and women’s sections, so a little on the small side – but it worked out.

If you are arriving by car, you can stay at Fridas Hotel in the harbour. We did not go inside, but from the outside it looked really nice.

On two evenings we headed up to an industrial area where a handful of different restaurants, bars and live music venues are gathered together.

Wow, what a great atmosphere – truly worth a visit. We ate at Garage SE and Barbera.

It is about a 15–20 minute walk from the harbour, but wonderfully easy to get to, with good paths to walk on and really attractive, open and clean streets.

We will 100% be going back to Höganäs – both we and the girls absolutely loved it.

On the third day we sailed home, only to return three or four days later when the weather had finally turned. Sun and summer – and what a wonderful atmosphere.
