Restaurant at The Falcon Hotel

Adventure, flavour and safari atmosphere in Sandvig

We had dinner as a family at The Falcon Hotel in Sandvig – and found a place that balances atmosphere, delicious food and child-friendliness beautifully. An evening we won’t forget in a hurry.

Restaurant Falcon– A menu with flavour, style and room for the whole family on Bornholm

Atmosphere and surroundings

The Falcon Hotel is not just a restaurant – it is a place with a story of its own. Everything stems from the owner, a passionate hunter and adventurer who has spent decades collecting taxidermy, falcons, trophies, binoculars and mementos from his travels. The hotel and restaurant are decorated with his personal collection, and you almost feel as though you are stepping into an expedition from another era.

The atmosphere is warm and calm – despite the many objects, it never feels cluttered. Every detail has been considered, and although the theme is hunting, it feels neither macabre nor over the top. It is a place with edge and character – and one that still manages to be a pleasant place to be.

We sat at a window table overlooking the Baltic Sea, and the children had plenty of room to move about, both indoors and out in the garden, where there is a giant chess set and various other games.

The menu – the March menu

The menu is seasonal and offers set 3-, 4- or 5-course menus. The dishes are fixed, but there are a few options for add-ons and swaps – hake as an alternative main course, for example. You can also add a wine pairing.

What we ate at Restaurant Falcon

We didn’t go for a set menu but put together our own dinner from the à la carte selection. That worked really well – and while the food wasn’t gourmet in the classic sense, it was well cooked and full of flavour. The dishes were small and neatly presented, yet nothing felt like “too little”. The combinations were well thought through, and we left satisfied without feeling heavy.

Smoked halibut (DKK 135):

Simply plated and really lovely in flavour. The fish had a mild smoky edge and a good texture. The presentation was understated – no excessive garnish, just good produce and balance.

Beef tartare (DKK 135):

The tartare was coarsely chopped, which gave it a bit more texture. It came with chilli mayo and puffed corn – adding both a little heat and some crunch. A solid, tasty starter.

Chicken confit (DKK 235):

A classic dish, but really well made. The chicken was tender and cooked through without being dry, and the jus and the purée gave it warmth and body. Jes enjoyed it and shared a little with me.

Hake (DKK 285 + DKK 50 supplement):

I chose the hake as my main, and it was cooked to perfection. The flesh was firm, and it was nicely balanced with potatoes and vegetables. Everything was served calmly and simply – no fuss.

Cheese selection (DKK 125):

Three cheeses, served with a little honey and crispbread. Good flavours – the firm, slightly salty cheese in particular worked well. A good alternative to dessert, and the one Jes chose.

Saffron ice cream (DKK 125):

It was creamy, and the saffron and white chocolate flavours were subtle and well balanced. A drop of olive oil on top gave it an interesting twist. A rather different dessert, but one that worked.

The children:

Each had the 2-course children’s menu – one with meatballs, the other with fishcakes, both with salad and rösti. They ate everything and were especially pleased with the dessert, which was a little surprise.

Wine and drinks:

We shared a bottle of Chablis (DKK 500), had a glass of champagne each (2 x DKK 100), and ordered a Coke Zero (DKK 35) and a bottle of water (DKK 60).

Total price: DKK 2,525.30 (all included)
