Atmosphere and setting by the harbour
Bistro L sits right by the harbour in Lomma, where the pleasure boats are moored and where boats sail past just out front – it is genuinely lovely. The place describes itself as a local neighbourhood bistro in Newport style, a stone's throw from the beach and the canal, and that fits well with what we saw: a terrace with big orange parasols, woven chairs, planters and strings of lights that came on as the evening light faded, and above the entrance a round black sign with a lighthouse.
The atmosphere was really good. Plenty of adults hanging out, sitting with drinks and enjoying the evening – and there is also a lounge area where you can take your coffee or a glass of wine after the meal. Because you are sitting right on Kajgatan, where everyone walks past, there is a proper summer buzz all around the table. Inside there are laid tables, upholstered chairs and hanging bulb lights, but in good weather the terrace is the place to be.
The place is newly opened in 2025 and is described as family-friendly – and it is. We had children with us, and that was catered for the whole way through.
What we ate
We started with a bottle of Baudouin Millet Intensément Chablis 2023 (695 SEK), which sat in the cooler by the table and stayed with us all evening. For the children it was a Sprite and a Coca-Cola Zero (43 SEK each).
My main course was the schnitzel (265 SEK). It was pork, breaded and crisp, and it came with peas, capers, a lemon wedge and a pan gravy – the sort of things that simply work together. It was really, really good.
The receipt says Oxfilépasta (295 SEK), but what landed in front of Olivia was slices of pink-roasted beef fillet with chips, vegetables in a little blue bowl and ketchup in a glass on the side. She absolutely loved it. The bistro dishes can also be had in children's portions, and the children could choose chips, pasta or the dishes from the menu at half price – our barn bistrorätt cost 175 SEK. On the table there was also a bowl of ravioli with grated parmesan, crispy kale and cherry tomatoes, beautifully presented.
For dessert we shared the 3 sorters svenska ostar (165 SEK on the receipt, 180 on the menu). Three Swedish cheeses – one of them a blue, which is my favourite – with lovely crispbread, blueberries and jam alongside. Then came a Choklad Brownie (155 SEK), two pieces of dark chocolate cake with delicious ice cream and crumble, very handsomely plated and with a flavour that was fantastic. For the little one it was vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce (65 SEK), which sits on the menu just below the children's dishes.
We finished with an Affogato al caffè (95 SEK, the price without alcohol) and 2 x Jameson (50 SEK) on the side. It tasted really good, and the ice cream in it was really, really good. The receipt also showed a line for öppen mat at 25 SEK.
Service with everything under control
The service was really, really good. We were looked after by a young woman who genuinely had a handle on the service, the pace and everything else – even with children at the table and a place that was packed. That is not always a given on a busy summer evening by the harbour, and it lifted the whole experience.
Price and level
The bill came to 1,656 SEK in total for main courses, desserts, a children's meal of steak and chips, soft drinks, whisky and a bottle of Chablis at 695 SEK. That worked out at just under 1,000 Danish kroner – and for that food, that view and that service, it is cheap. The menu is French-European bistro with a focus on Swedish and Skåne produce, and the price level is clearly below what you pay for the same on the Danish side of the Øresund.
We will definitely be back. Lomma is a really charming town in itself, and there are not that many restaurants to choose from – but with Bistro L you do not need any more. We sail over in the boat, moor in the marina and walk up to the terrace for a schnitzel and a glass of Chablis, while the children have steak and chips. That is how a summer evening should be.
