Arrival and digital check-in
We arrived at Park Lane Copenhagen on a Friday afternoon for a stay that quickly turned out to be something quite special. The experience began before we even got there: the hotel sent a digital check-in link so we could fill in all our details from home. That means no standing at the desk on arrival juggling credit cards, driving licences and assorted forms.
You could also order little extras for the room here – champagne, fruit and other treats – so they were ready and waiting when we arrived. A small detail, but it's precisely this sort of thing that lets you feel the standard before you've even stepped through the door.
Newly renovated hotel with a Michelin Key
Park Lane Copenhagen has been completely refurbished, and you can tell. Everything looks new, exclusive and extremely well thought through. Materials, design, furniture and details come together in a way that makes it clear nothing has been skimped on.
The hotel is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World and has been awarded a Michelin Key, the Michelin Guide's distinction for some of the world's most remarkable hotels.
Hillinger Suite
We had booked The Hillinger Suite, the hotel's largest and most exclusive suite. Jes had found it on Booking.com for 9,500 kr. for two nights, which is genuinely excellent value. The suite normally goes for up to 20,000 kr. per night, so it really pays to keep an eye out if you want a spectacular hotel experience at a good price. Yes, 9–10,000 kr. is a lot of money – but it is also one of the most extraordinary hotel stays we have ever had.
When we walked in, there was no doubt: it was the most beautiful and most stately suite we have ever stayed in. The ceilings were extremely high, the rooms large and the interiors incredibly tasteful. Among other things, the suite includes:
• 2 B&O televisions
• B&O sound system with Bluetooth
• Fully equipped kitchen with Miele appliances
• Professional coffee machine
• 2 fridges
The living room was furnished with beautiful designer furniture, a cosy (LED) fireplace and a large dining table for six. There are also two Juliet balconies overlooking Strandvejen and the handsome villas leading down towards the water – some of Denmark's most expensive addresses.
Bedroom and bathroom
The bedroom connects to the bathroom and one of the suite's two toilets. The bathroom is fully open-plan and stunningly done, with a large bathtub, an enormous shower enclosure and luxury toiletries from Acqua di Parma. There was also a Dyson hairdryer and a Dyson curling wand. It's the small details that make the difference – and here, everything has genuinely been thought about.
Friday bar with a DJ
When we arrived on Friday at 3 pm, the hotel's Friday bar was in full swing. But unlike many places that lure you in with a happy hour, the atmosphere here was more elegant and sophisticated. There was a DJ, good music and a crowd of Hellerup locals – and yes, people our own age and upwards.
The atmosphere was fantastic, the cocktails really good and the service first-rate. We enjoyed a cocktail before heading on, but we could easily have lingered for hours.
Breakfast without a buffet
Park Lane has a truly clever breakfast concept. Forget crowded buffets, empty bacon trays and queues at the coffee machine. Instead, you order your breakfast at the table using a tick-box form, choosing from various breads, eggs, breakfast plates, freshly pressed juices, coffee and specialities.
Everything is homemade and of really high quality. One day we enjoyed breakfast in the restaurant, and the next it was served in the room via room service – both worked perfectly.
Rose Rose and Parsley Salon
One evening we ate at Restaurant Rose Rose, which adjoins the hotel. It's a classic French bistro where we had really delicious, authentic French food. A perfect end to a day of luxury in Hellerup. It isn't the hotel's own restaurant, but it was lovely and absolutely worth a visit.
In the basement beneath the hotel you'll also find Parsley Salon, which holds 1 Michelin star. Sadly we didn't get to eat there this time, but it looked wonderful – and it's firmly on the list for our next visit.
Service and a personal welcome
At check-in we were welcomed by the staff, who gave us a short introduction to the hotel. We were then shown up to the room and walked through the suite's various features. The staff were professional, welcoming and very attentive throughout. It was service at the level you expect from a luxury hotel – and then some.
Location and parking
The area around the hotel offers Strandvejen, the seafront promenade, parks, palaces and cosy cafés. You can also borrow bikes from the hotel, which makes exploring the area an obvious choice. Transport links are good, and we took an Uber into the city, which worked perfectly.
One thing well worth factoring in: Park Lane offers free parking. In Copenhagen, parking can quickly add up to over 1,000 kr., so that's actually a considerable advantage. You can put that money towards a little extra luxury during your stay instead – perhaps a better room or a glass of champagne.
Park Lane Copenhagen is a hotel where everything comes together: the service, the design, the atmosphere, the breakfast and the suite. It is luxury through and through, without ever becoming stiff or pretentious. It certainly won't be our last visit to Park Lane – next time with a table booked at Parsley Salon. A huge recommendation from us.
