Lomma and the harbour
We have simply grown so fond of Lomma. The town is charming and the harbour is really quite wonderful, so when we moored the boat here during the summer holidays, finding somewhere for lunch was the obvious thing to do. Fiskboden is on Kajgatan right out on the harbourside, a stone's throw from the boats, and it has been here since 1996, when twin brothers Stefan and Fredrik Håkansson started out with a small fish stall. Today it is both a fishmonger's and a restaurant.
We sat outside on the terrace. The boats right in front of us, sun on the table and a glass of the house white - hard to be grumpy about that.
How it works
The concept is simple. You find yourself a table, go up and order at the counter, and carry your own drinks back down to the table. It works really well, and there is no waiting around to catch a waiter's eye. The menu is chalked up on the boards above the counter, so you can stand and browse while you make up your mind.
A small note: remember the prices are in Swedish kronor, so do check the exchange rate before you start doing sums ;-)
What we ate
We had four main courses between us. The deep-fried plaice with boiled new potatoes, hand-peeled prawns and remoulade at 209 SEK was clearly the best dish of the day, no doubt about it. We also had two portions of fish'n'chips from the children's menu with deep-fried cod fillet, remoulade and freshly made chips at 139 SEK each, and a Lommaburgare with lettuce, tomato, red onion and remoulade, where we added 25 SEK for chips, bringing it to 194 SEK.
With the food we drank two glasses of the house white at 95 SEK a glass and three soft drinks at 30 SEK each. The food was good, let there be no doubt about that, but honestly it was also a little ordinary. It is classic harbourside lunch fare that does what it needs to, without anything that made us say wow. And that is precisely why it gets four stars rather than four and a half.
Price and level
The bill came to 961 SEK for four main courses, two glasses of white wine and three soft drinks, so around 240 SEK per person including drinks. Mains on the menu range from 135 to 215 SEK, and there is a children's menu at 139 to 149 SEK. So this is an informal fish place serving fish and other dishes, where you turn up in shorts straight off the boat, and that is exactly as it should be.
A cosy, well-run fish place on the harbour in Lomma, where the food is good and the outdoor terrace is lovely. Next time we moor in Lomma we will certainly be back for lunch, because the seating is pleasant and the food is good. Go for the deep-fried plaice - that is the dish worth coming for.
