Messy, juicy cheeseburger tacos with melted cheddar, crisp salad and homemade burger sauce.
Burger tacos – I love them! Almost more than a classic cheeseburger 🙂
They taste so good, – the thin patty and the fried tortilla take on a wonderful flavour when they cook together. A gloriously messy mouthful with fresh salad and the best burger sauce.
Cheeseburger tacos for a crowd
You can easily prepare your tacos in advance and keep them in the fridge until you are ready to cook them.
Press the meat out onto your tortillas, season with salt and pepper, and stack them with a sheet of greaseproof paper between each one so they don’t stick together.
If you have a barbecue with a flat griddle plate, I highly recommend cooking them on that, – you can do several at a time, and it takes no time at all.
I hope you’ll try my recipe for cheeseburger tacos, – you’ll find it below 🙂
Cheeseburger tacos
Ingredients
- 600 g minced beef
- 8 small tortilla wraps
- 8 slices cheddar
- Salt and pepper
- Oil
To serve
- 1 batch burger sauce – click here
- Romaine or iceberg lettuce – shredded
- Red onion, sliced
- Tomatoes, sliced
- Pickled gherkins, sliced
Method
- Divide the meat into 75 g portions and squeeze each one firmly together in your hands, – just as if you were shaping a burger patty.*Pressing the meat firmly together first makes it much easier to spread it out over the tortillas, and it gets rid of the typical "minced" look.
- Place a portion of meat on each tortilla and press it out so it covers the whole tortilla. Get them all ready, – and season with salt and pepper.*The meat will shrink as it cooks, so it needs to be pressed right out to the edges.
- Heat a splash of oil in a frying pan and fry them for a couple of minutes over a good high heat, – meat side down. Press them down firmly with a spatula or similar for the first little while. *Depending on the size of your pan, you can fry one or two at a time.
- Then flip them over, lay 2 half slices of cheese on the meat, – end to end, and warm the tortilla side for a moment. Then transfer them to a baking tray lined with baking paper in the oven at 80°C, conventional oven (top and bottom heat). This keeps them warm, – and melts the cheese.*If you are only cooking for 1 or 2 people, you can skip the oven, – and instead put a lid on the pan to melt the cheese. In that case, give them about 1 minute on the tortilla side, still over high heat.
- Before serving, top your burger tacos with crisp lettuce, fresh tomato, onion, pickled gherkins and, of course, homemade burger sauce.
