Soft, chewy homemade flatbreads topped with all the best bits of a Big Mac burger – that is the Big Mac Wrap.
This is proper Sunday comfort food, and if you love a good Big Mac, I’m fairly sure this wrap will hit the spot for you.
It is filled with spiced beef, crisp lettuce, onion, cheddar and, of course, Big Mac sauce. And because we were making chips to go with it, a handful of those went in too.
I have also added a pepper, an onion and a large carrot to the meat, – simply to get a bit more veg into the dish.
The homemade pan-cooked flatbreads really are the finishing touch, – but you can also buy flatbreads or, when time is short, use tortilla wraps.
Big Mac Wrap
Ingredients
- 1 batch flatbreads – click here for the recipe – freeze the rest or save them for packed lunches
- 1 small onion, cut into thin strips
- Lettuce, – romaine or iceberg
- Optional: 4 handfuls of chips – cooked
Big Mac meat
- 600 g beef mince (500 g is also fine)
- 130 g cheddar, grated
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 green pepper, cut into very small dice
- 1 carrot, cut into very small dice
- 2 1/2 tsp paprika
- 3/4 tsp garlic powder
- 3/4 tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper
Big Mac sauce
- 150 ml mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard (or sweet mustard) – I use French’s
- 1 pickled gherkin, finely chopped – about 2-3 tbsp
- 1 1/2 tsp white wine vinegar
- 1 tsp ketchup
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp smoked paprika (regular paprika can be used instead)
- 1/4 tsp sweet paprika
- Salt and pepper
Method
Big Mac sauce
- Stir the sauce ingredients together and season to taste with salt and pepper.
- Keep the sauce in the fridge until you are ready to serve.
Big Mac meat
- Heat a little oil in a frying pan and sauté the onion until translucent.
- Add the mince, season with salt and pepper, and brown it well.
- Add the carrot and the spices, and let the meat cook over a medium heat for 5 minutes, stirring now and then.
- Add the pepper, stir well and let it cook for another 4-5 minutes. Season the meat again with salt and pepper.
- Turn off the heat, scatter the grated cheddar over the top and fold it in gently so the cheese melts. It is fine if it stays in a few clumps – that is part of the appeal.
Big Mac wrap
- Fill the warm flatbreads.Start by spreading one half with Big Mac sauce, then top with a handful of lettuce leaves, meat and onion. If you want chips in your wrap, add them now too.Roll up the wrap and serve straight away.
