An easy recipe for puff pastry triangles with ham, gouda and herb cream cheese. This is the simplest recipe for puff pastry bites – a lovely snack that takes barely 5 minutes to prepare, followed by a spell in the oven.
Puff pastry with ham and cheese – a true classic, gooey and moreish. The pastry is spread with herb cream cheese, then layered with ham and gouda. The pastry is then folded up and the log cut into triangles. It takes no time at all to prepare, and after that it is simply a matter of brushing with egg, sprinkling with sesame seeds and baking for around 20 minutes.
Serve the puff pastry bites as a light snack with a glass of wine, on a tapas spread, as an appetiser or similar. They taste best warm, but can also be served cold. Straight from the fridge they turn a little “firm” in texture, so I would recommend serving them either warm – or simply left to cool on the baking tray before serving.
Puff pastry bites with ham and cheese
Ingredients
- 1 roll puff pastry ready-rolled
- 6-8 slices ham
- 6-8 slices gouda – or another sliced cheese
- 100 g cream cheese – ideally with herbs
- Salt and freshly ground pepper
- Beaten egg, for brushing
- Sesame seeds
- Parsley (optional)
Method
- Unroll the puff pastry from its paper and spread the whole sheet with cream cheese. Season with salt and freshly ground pepper.
- Lay the ham on top and finish with the sliced cheese. Ideally leave a couple of cm bare along one of the long edges.See the video above the recipe.
- Now fold or roll the pastry up lengthwise so it forms several layers. Finish with the seam facing down, and press it gently flat – without squashing it.
- Cut the pastry log into triangles.
- Place them on a sheet of baking paper, brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C, conventional oven (top and bottom heat), for about 20 minutes.
- Serve warm, sprinkled with a little parsley if you like.
