Hot honey – easy, flavourful chilli honey made with just 3 ingredients.
Hot honey is one of those little flavour boosters that can lift almost anything – sweet, hot and slightly sharp all at once. And the best part? It is very easy to make and needs only three ingredients.
Here is a recipe that combines honey, chilli and a little apple cider vinegar to strike the right balance between sweetness, heat and acidity. It takes only a few minutes to make, and then you have a flavour booster ready for both sweet and savoury cooking.
Ways to use hot honey:
- Drizzled over crisp halloumi bites
- On pizza – especially with pepperoni or burrata
- As a dip for cheese boards and tapas
- Over roasted vegetables or grilled meat
- In a ham and cheese sandwich
- On a main-course salad with chicken or roasted pumpkin
- On pancakes or waffles for a sweet and spicy contrast
It keeps well in the fridge for up to a month – so make a slightly larger batch so you always have some to hand to give your dishes a little extra kick.
Hot Honey with 3 Ingredients
Ingredients
- 200 g runny honey
- 2 tbsp chilli flakes
- 1 tbsp apple cider or white wine vinegar
Method
- Pour the honey into a small saucepan with the chilli flakes and warm it gently over a low heat. It should only just be warmed through, so that it takes on the flavour of the chilli more readily.
- Remove from the heat and stir in the apple cider vinegar.
- Store in the fridge, where it keeps well for about a month.
