We fell for the pictures. A beautiful room with space for all of us – and a view over Liseberg. We had no idea that Hotel Curiosa was a hotel built entirely around children when we booked, but it quickly turned out to be a very special place. Our girls loved it – and we ended up rather caught up in the atmosphere ourselves.
Arrival, location and first impressions
We arrived on the second weekend of November – exactly as Liseberg opened its big winter and Christmas world. And that set the mood straight away. Fairy lights, fir branches, snow, an ice rink and the scent of glögg. It was all right outside the door – and from the room we could see everything.
The hotel is perfectly placed – close to the city, but with Liseberg as its back garden. There is good parking, and we could easily charge the car during our stay. You can also check in online before arrival, so you simply head straight up to the room – really clever when you turn up with children and bags.
The room – play and luxury in one package
We stayed in room 606 – a lovely, spacious and playfully designed family room with its own balcony and a view over Liseberg. It was furnished with fun details, colours and features for the children, yet still calm and comfortable for us adults. The bed was good, there was room to spread out – and the girls loved both the sleeping area and the little discoveries dotted around the room.
Everything felt new, well thought out and child-friendly without being “childish”. Here, play and aesthetics go hand in hand. And that really does something.
Breakfast by slide
Yes, you read that correctly. There is a giant slide down to breakfast. It starts on the upper floor and winds its way down through the atrium – and the children are mad about it! Whooshing down almost becomes part of the ritual, as the scent of coffee and freshly baked bread drifts up.
The buffet is large and varied – everything you could need. Fresh rolls, croissants, pancakes, fruit, yoghurt, plenty of coffee and juice, and a good selection of both hot and cold dishes. The children have been thought of, and that makes the whole experience more relaxed.
Christmas atmosphere and experience
As mentioned, Hotel Curiosa sits right next to Liseberg – and being there for the winter opening was nothing short of magical. Snow-covered Christmas trees, glittering lights and ice-cold rides created an atmosphere that could melt even the most Christmas-weary of hearts.
We could see it all from our balcony – the ice rink, the big Christmas tree, the rides and the many little stalls. It felt like living in the middle of a Christmas film.
Price and value for money
We paid around 2,000 DKK per night – and it felt entirely fair for the experience. Everything was top notch: location, room, service and facilities. And with parking and charging included, it is certainly a good investment for a weekend with the family.
