Nothing here is left to chance – just pure indulgence from check-in to late check-out. A place you never want to leave.

Recommendation: Hotel Bella Grande – One of the best hotels I have ever stayed at in Copenhagen

An experience out of the ordinary

I have stayed at quite a few hotels in Copenhagen by now, but Hotel Bella Grande really stands out – and in all the right ways. This is not just another hotel with nice rooms and polite staff. This place has soul and atmosphere, and it is clear that something has been created here that goes well beyond what you would expect.

The hotel sits right in the city centre, in a classic Copenhagen building on Vester Voldgade. As you step inside, you are met by an inviting and relaxed atmosphere, where everything from the interior to the music and the staff’s warm attitude makes you feel like a guest – not a customer. It feels a little like coming home, just with far nicer furniture and a better minibar 😅

Our suite – With a private roof terrace and the Copenhagen skyline

We had booked one of the hotel’s suites with a private roof terrace, and wow – it really was something special. The terrace is large, filled with green plants and stylish lounge furniture, with views across Copenhagen’s characteristic rooftops. You could sit there for hours and simply enjoy the calm and the atmosphere – in the middle of the city, yet completely secluded.

This really is a place where you want to linger, and we did – not least because we could check out as late as 12 noon. That adds an extra touch of luxury and calm to the morning.

The free minibar – not just a bit of water and peanuts

One of the things that really impressed me was the free minibar that came with the suite. And no – we are not talking about half a bottle of white wine and two sparkling waters. There was a large and tempting selection of high-quality bottles – wine, spirits, snacks and cold drinks. All of it was included, and it genuinely made a difference to the experience – you felt truly spoiled. (I show it all in the video I am posting alongside this piece.)

Donna – A genuine Italian gem in the middle of it all

The hotel is also home to Donna, an Italian restaurant focused on simple, elegant Italian cooking. We had lunch there, and it was a truly lovely experience. The food was full of flavour, the ingredients top-notch, and the atmosphere both elegant and relaxed at once – just like the rest of the hotel. You can read more about Donna here: Restaurant Donna.

It is a real bonus not having to head out into town to find somewhere good to eat – here you have everything under one roof.

Price, service and the overall experience – Everything added up

We paid DKK 3,200 for one night, and compared with other hotels and rooms we have tried, that is genuinely a good price. The roof terrace alone could cost twice that at another hotel, and once you add a free minibar, late check-out and the overall luxurious yet informal atmosphere on top – well, it almost feels cheap.

The staff were extremely welcoming and cheerful. They were present without being intrusive, and the whole hotel had a lovely laid-back and personal feel that simply made the experience even better. Everything felt well thought through and human – you can really sense that someone has had a vision for the place and followed it all the way.
