Review of La Ventana– Delicious Colombian & Cuban food

An evening at La Ventana South Beach turned into a lovely experience full of flavour, good ingredients and a cosy atmosphere. This Colombian-inspired restaurant sits on Washington Avenue and is known for pairing authentic dishes with a friendly, relaxed setting.

With a menu that ranges from small plates and grilled meats to seafood and crisp plantains, we were keen to eat our way through both Colombian classics and Cuban-inspired specialities.

Mood and atmosphere

We sat outside and enjoyed the lively buzz of the pavement, where music and laughter filled the air. The service was friendly and attentive, and we felt at home straight away. The restaurant is relaxed and unpretentious – a place where everyone can feel welcome.

What we ate at La Ventana

We tried a mix of child-friendly favourites and classic Colombian dishes. Here is what we chose:

Kids Chicken Fingers with white rice ($13 x 2):
The crisp, juicy pieces of chicken were a sure winner with the children, and white rice on the side was a simple but popular choice.

Mi Tierra ($18):
A plate piled with Colombian favourites such as red beans, avocado, fried plantain and a fried egg on top. A colourful, well-flavoured dish that both fills you up and impresses.

Guacamole Arepitas ($18):
Small corn cakes served with freshly made guacamole and pico de gallo. The combination of the crisp arepitas and the creamy guacamole was just right.

Churrasco ($38):
Tender grilled beef served medium with garlic butter, white rice and black beans. The flavour and juiciness of the meat made this a clear favourite.

Pollo en Salsa Criolla with patacones ($24):
A flavourful dish of tender chicken in a creamy, spiced criolla sauce. The crisp patacones (fried plantains) were a delicious contrast to the sauce.
