Review of WATR– Japanese-inspired and impeccably executed

If you want to experience Miami from the top shelf – quite literally – then WATR at 1 Hotel South Beach is a must. This rooftop restaurant offers an unforgettable combination of luxury, fantastic food, DJ-lounge vibes and a view that takes your breath away. Overlooking Miami’s skyline, the turquoise sea and the hotel’s beautiful pool area, it feels like a scene from a film.

Atmosphere and clientele – A luxurious experience

WATR is a place where you immediately sense the exclusivity. From the moment you arrive at 1 Hotel South Beach you are greeted by the most lavish cars, and the hotel lobby exudes modern luxury. The clientele matches the surroundings – smart outfits, cocktails in hand and an air of “see and be seen.”

Although we were probably the only ones with children that evening, the staff met us with smiles and genuine warmth and made sure we felt welcome. The music from the DJ created a relaxed lounge atmosphere, and we thoroughly enjoyed being part of this exclusive side of Miami – just for one evening.

What we ate at WATR

Our order

Steamed Edamame ($13):

A classic start – steamed edamame beans with a touch of salt. A simple but always delicious snack.

Spicy Edamame ($19):

A slightly bolder version with a spicy chilli sauce that gave the beans an extra kick.

Vegetable Tempura ($22):

Perfectly crisp and light, with a selection of vegetables dipped in tempura batter and served with a mild soy sauce.

Tuna Tartare ($29):

Fresh and flavourful tartare with avocado, a tangy ponzu sauce and crisp rice crackers – a dish that truly shone.

Shrimp Tempura & Tuna Roll ($29):

This sushi roll combined crisp prawn and fresh tuna with avocado and spicy mayo. The flavour was fantastic, and the roll was beautifully presented.

Side of Rice ($10):

Simple bowls of perfectly cooked, fluffy rice – the children’s favourite that evening.

Drinks

Veuve Yellow Label Champagne ($200):

We chose to celebrate the evening with this classic champagne, which paired perfectly with the Japanese flavours.

Chalk Hill Chardonnay ($17 per glass):

A full-bodied, well-balanced wine that also went well with both the sushi and the tempura.

Soft drinks and San Pellegrino ($22):

Simple and refreshing for the children.
