At Le Port, lunch is served as small, flavourful dishes built on the classic elements of smørrebrød (open-faced rye bread sandwiches). The produce is local and organic, and the dishes are plated beautifully with an eye for both balance and texture. Here is what we had – and what else you’ll find on the menu.
Mustard herring with tomato, egg and capers – DKK 105
Jes started with this – and called it the best herring he had ever eaten. The balance between sharp, creamy and salty was spot on. It came with toasted bread and was both classic and precise.
Freshly peeled prawns with organic egg, lemon mayo and frisée – DKK 155
Beautifully plated, with mild, sweet prawns and a lightly sharp lemon mayo that brought freshness and depth. The egg was perfectly cooked and the salad crisp – a very successful dish.
Hand-mixed veal tartare with horseradish mayo, crisps of Danish rye bread (rugbrød), capers and fresh horseradish – DKK 155
The tartare had good texture, the flavour was mild but full, and the accompaniments brought acidity, crunch and heat. The rye bread crisps were crisp and full of flavour.
Lightly smoked chicken salad with crispy bacon, asparagus and cornichons – DKK 140
The dressing was light and well seasoned, and the gentle smokiness of the chicken worked really well with the pickled elements. A light but flavourful plate.
4 cheeses with compote and malt crispbread – DKK 125
Four small pieces of carefully chosen cheese, each with its own character. The compote was sweet and full-bodied and the malt crispbread crisp – a cheese course that works well at lunchtime.
Kiksekage (Danish chocolate biscuit cake) with berry compote and sorbet – DKK 95
Classic kiksekage with deep, intense chocolate flavour – lifted by a sharp sorbet and berry compote that brought lightness and contrast.
Children’s dessert: Rainbow ice cream – Gourmet edition – (price not listed)
A firework display of colours, ice cream and decorations. Not just a “children’s dessert”, but a proper part of the experience. Alberte and Olivia were thrilled – and we could see why.
Wine and drinks
Chablis 1er Cru – DKK 850
Elegant, mineral and lively. It paired perfectly with the herring, the prawns and the tartare. A wine with nerve and lightness that helped tie the whole meal together.
By OTT Rosé, by the glass – DKK 125 per glass
Light and fruity rosé, an obvious match for this bright lunch cooking and perfect on the terrace.
Organic soft drinks from Bornholm – DKK 46 each
The girls had lovely local soft drinks, and we had a little extra bread along the way – it was hard to say no.
