Champagne, cocktails and perhaps the best hotel breakfast in Denmark.

Villa Copenhagen – luxury and atmosphere in the heart of Copenhagen

Jes and I checked in to Villa Copenhagen on a Friday afternoon and were met with champagne, a wonderful atmosphere and a breakfast in a class of its own. Here is our full experience – from the junior suite to the cocktails and the best bread in the city.

Villa Copenhagen

An arrival that sets the tone

We arrived on Friday at 3 pm – right on check-in time – and the moment we walked through the gateway into the enormous atrium, we could feel it.

Villa Copenhagen exudes quality.

The large open courtyard hums with life. Guests sit with beautiful cocktails, and there is a relaxed mood, understated luxury and an international feel that you rarely find in Copenhagen. The hotel occupies the old central post office building from 1912 – and the combination of historic architecture and modern luxury works remarkably well.

We were welcomed by Jens – an exceptionally friendly Swede – and while he sorted out the paperwork, we were offered a glass of champagne. A thoroughly wonderful way to begin a weekend stay.

We were also given two vouchers for a glass of Sancerre, which we later enjoyed in the atrium. Small details – but they matter.

Location – it doesn't get more central than this

Villa Copenhagen sits right next to Copenhagen Central Station (Hovedbanegården). It simply doesn’t get more central than this.

We had taken the car (we won’t be doing that again 😉). Parking in Copenhagen is extremely expensive, and it turned out that the hotel’s valet parking would actually have been cheaper than parking in the green zone just around the corner.

Next time we’ll take the train. You step straight out into the city, there are always taxis waiting outside, and you are within walking distance of Tivoli, Vesterbro, Indre By and Strøget.

Pool & facilities

Sadly we didn’t get round to using the pool area, which looked genuinely inviting. Villa Copenhagen has a heated rooftop pool with views over the city – and that is one we simply have to try next time.

Room service & RUG – the perfect start

When we arrived, we ordered room service just to settle in.

We tried their utterly fantastic sourdough bread from the hotel’s own bakery, RUG, served with luxury preserves. It was truly delicious – and a cosy, relaxed way to begin the weekend.

Having its own bakery on site simply raises the bar.

Cocktails & atmosphere

Both evenings ended in the hotel’s Wine & Cocktails Bar.

Really good cocktails. Beautifully presented. Well balanced. There was a DJ and a great buzz without it ever becoming too much. It felt international – almost like being in London or Paris.

The atrium is alive all day – and in the evening it takes on a pulse all of its own.

The breakfast – perhaps the best in Denmark

And now for the real highlight.

The breakfast.

Perhaps the best breakfast we have ever had at a Danish hotel.

Even though the hotel is large and there are plenty of guests, it simply worked. No chaos. No stress.

The buffet was lavish:

  • Fine cheeses

  • Delicious sausages

  • Fresh specialities

  • Omelettes

  • Fantastic sourdough bread

  • Croissants

  • Cinnamon swirls

  • Fresh fruit

  • High quality across the board

The bread alone is worth the visit.

Even if you’re not staying at the hotel, book the breakfast anyway. It genuinely is an experience in itself.

Junior Suite

– beautiful, compact and well thought out

We stayed in a Junior Suite (room 1064) for two nights. The room is on a corner facing Danske Bank’s headquarters.

At around 28 m² it is a little compact for a suite – but in practice it worked really well. Prices typically range from DKK 3,500–5,000 per night, depending on the season.

The interior is exceptionally beautiful and exclusive:

  • Brass radiator covers

  • Designer furniture

  • Beautiful textiles

  • Muted colours

  • A really large, luxurious bed with a firm mattress

The bed was one of the best things about the room. Firm, comfortable and dressed in lovely linen.

Also included:

  • Minibar

  • Coffee machine

  • Iron

  • Large TV with plenty of channels

  • 24-hour room service

The photos give an honest glimpse of the hotel's mood, design and atmosphere – and why the place feels like a little international oasis in the heart of Copenhagen.

Villa Copenhagen is a hotel with something truly special about it.

The atmosphere. The breakfast. The cocktails. The historic building combined with modern luxury.

It is not the most intimate hotel in Copenhagen – but it is a hotel with stature, energy and quality.

We will certainly be back.

Next time by train. And with swimwear for the rooftop pool.
