Sinae Phuket

Panoramic views and private pools – luxury, but not without compromises.

We stayed at Sinae Phuket as a family in a 2-bedroom villa with a private pool and panoramic views. A beautiful and unique hotel built on a steep hillside, where service and comfort are top-notch – but where the beach and location mean you should choose the place with your eyes open.

A unique, cosy and intimate hotel – built on an extremely steep hillside

Sinae Phuket is a different kind of hotel. It sits on Koh Siray, just outside Phuket, and is built directly into a very steep hillside.

It is a relatively new build, and the architecture is genuinely striking – modern, calm and well thought through, with villas set in tiers down the hillside.

It is also a hotel where you quickly realise that you don’t simply walk around. It is just too steep. But that is actually no problem at all – because the hotel has solved it really well.

Buggy service and app – it just works

The whole stay is built around the hotel’s buggy service, which is included when you stay there.

And yes – “Room to Hilltop” is exactly as easy as it sounds. One tap, and you are picked up.

It worked flawlessly throughout our stay, which meant the steep terrain never felt like a problem.

Everything is managed through the hotel’s own app, which, incidentally, is one of the best-functioning we have ever used:

  • communication with staff (they reply extremely quickly)
  • room service
  • buggy booking with set routes, so there is nothing to explain

And as an added bonus: the children loved riding in the buggies. It made the logistics easy – and actually rather fun too.

Location – beautiful, but isolated

Sinae is beautifully situated, but fairly isolated. You can’t walk to anything, and the roads around the hotel are narrow and busy with traffic. It is not a place where you pop out for an evening stroll and stumble upon restaurants or little shops.

Transport is therefore a must.
The drive to Phuket Old Town takes around 15–20 minutes depending on traffic. The hotel’s own taxis are relatively expensive (around 700 THB one way), so we used Grab, which works really well in Phuket – even though the hotel is a little outside town. We often went with Premium, which was still cheaper than the hotel’s options and easy to plan, in fact as low as 450 THB.

The beach in front of the hotel – sadly, really poor

The beach in front of the hotel was, unfortunately, dreadful. There were rocks and broken glass, and the water in the bay was murky. It is not somewhere you want to swim or spend time – and certainly not with children.

This is not a beach hotel, and that is important to know.

A good alternative right next door: Sealay Sea Space

We did discover, however, that there is a really lovely hotel and restaurant right next door – Sealay Sea Space at The Tide Hotel. We could actually walk there, and it was nice to have an alternative when we wanted to step out of the resort bubble without getting in a car. The atmosphere is relaxed, the view is beautiful, and it is a genuinely good spot.

Our pool villa

2 Bedroom Pool Villa with panoramic views

We stayed in villa 103, a 2-bedroom villa over two floors. The villa worked well for us as a family, but it is worth knowing that:

  • the bedroom is on the first floor

  • the ground floor serves as a living area and extra sleeping space

It is not ideal for very young children, unless you are prepared to sleep on separate floors – but for older children it works fine.

The interior is genuinely beautiful and well thought through, and the panoramic view over the bay is one of the highlights of the whole stay – especially from the first floor.

There are plenty of details that lift the experience:

  • 2 fridges

  • safe

  • iron

  • good wardrobe space

  • plenty of sockets (Danish/European two-pin plugs work)

  • Marshall speaker

  • the option to borrow a Nintendo

  • really good internet

There was also an espresso machine in the room with lovely coffee, capsules, proper glasses and everything you need. It got plenty of use – especially with that view.

Facilities & Restaurants

Shared pool

There is also a shared pool with around 6 loungers. It is small, but pretty and peaceful – and we actually used it quite a bit to catch some sun.

Breakfast – really good and relaxed

Breakfast was really good. The seating is pleasant, the atmosphere is calm, and the service is excellent and quick.

There is both:

  • à la carte dishes (omelettes, eggs, pancakes, speciality coffee and so on)

  • and a large buffet with Thai, Indian, salads, fruit, bread and sweet things

It all worked really well.

Restaurants at the hotel

There are two restaurants on site:

Hilltop Restaurant
Hilltop has an absolutely stunning view and is worth a visit for the outlook alone. It is extremely easy to get there and back using the app – Room to Hilltop – and it worked flawlessly. In fact, it is one of the only Starbucks in Thailand with a panoramic view.

SAI Lounge & Wine
A more relaxed lounge with wine, cocktails, snacks and lovely dinner dishes. A really pleasant spot at the end of the day.

In-room dining
Prices are high, but fair for a hotel in this category. The food was good, and it was easy to order through the app.

Christmas at Sinae Phuket – they really went to town

We celebrated Christmas at the hotel, and they had really made an effort. There was Thai dancing, a fire show and entertainment, which created a warm and festive atmosphere.

Dinner was a beautifully composed 5-course menu, and the staff were – as throughout the stay – genuinely kind and attentive.
There was also a prize draw during the evening (and almost everyone won 😉), and we won a lunch.

Practical: laundry & booking

Laundry is available through the hotel, but it is expensive compared with local laundries. We paid around 100 DKK (roughly £11) for 4.5 kg of clothes, washed and folded locally – considerably cheaper.

The hotel is generally expensive through the likes of Booking.com. We have therefore started using a travel agent, who can often secure better prices – and at the same time, airport transfers are taken care of, which gives extra peace of mind when the hotel is a little out of the way.

Sinae Phuket is a truly beautiful and polished hotel, where the views, service and comfort are top-notch. The app and buggy service work perfectly, the villas are lovely, and the panoramic view over the bay is something quite special.

But the beach is poor and the location is isolated – so it is a hotel you should choose with your eyes open.

For us, Sinae Phuket lands at 4 out of 5 stars.
