Café Strand in Espergærde

How we chose the place

We had heard a little about a new café in Espergærde – and after a couple of months without having been past, we decided to see what they had to offer. Café Strand sits in a perfect spot on Strandvejen, and the new wooden terrace was exactly what drew us in on this summer’s day.

Atmosphere, interior and welcome

Outside we were greeted by big, handsome bottles of rosé that all but whispered “come in and enjoy a warm afternoon”. Inside and on the terrace, the style is relaxed, light and summery – there is room for couples, friends and families with children alike. The staff welcomed us with smiles and calm efficiency, and we quickly felt at home.

The food

Jes and I each chose a lunch platter – and real care had gone into both flavour and presentation. The plates were filled with small delights in generous portions, with a lovely balance between the classic and the fresh. The children had the children’s menu of fish fillet and chips – crisp, golden breading with a fine remoulade (the Danish sweet-pickled kind) alongside. A simple dish, but made with care, and the children were thrilled.

Drinks

With the food we had a bottle of Aix rosé, which matched the mood perfectly – fresh, light and summery with notes of strawberry and citrus. The children were happy with Pepsi Max, and we finished with ice cream – two scoops for the big ones, one for the littlest.

If you ever find yourself near Espergærde, do yourself a favour and pop by Café Strand. Especially on a sunny day, when you can sit on the new wooden terrace with a view of life on Strandvejen and a glimpse of the water in the background. Bring the family – children are welcomed with open arms, and the menu caters to both the fussy and the adventurous.

It is a place where you can relax, eat well and enjoy a cold rosé while summer unfolds. And perhaps that is exactly what we all long for – a little sun, a hint of salt in the air and a plate full of small moments of flavour that we remember long afterwards.
