Genuine Greek atmosphere and flavour in the heart of Göteborg

We fell for Panos Panos Tavern – partly because it is a Greek restaurant with a genuine love of authentic cooking, and partly because it was founded by none other than Panos Papadopoulos, the man behind Panos Emporio. The combination of design, elegance and food from the heart of the Mediterranean drew us in – and we were not disappointed.

Atmosphere, interior and welcome

The restaurant sits in central Göteborg and radiates both elegance and relaxed southern charm. We arrived on an evening when the function room had been hired out – so there was music and cheerful voices in the background, which only added to the atmosphere. The bar stood in the middle of the room, and the surroundings felt like an extended holiday – without ever being too loud.

We were met by three male waiters who, with classic Greek charm and professionalism, made us feel seen and welcome. The girls were received warmly – and both dishes and service were adjusted without hesitation so that everyone could have a good experience.

What we ate – from meze to dessert

We started with a round of meze to share:

  • Panos Tzatziki – fresh, creamy and with a hint of apple. A perfect start.

  • 1/2 Kalamarakia – crisp squid rings with lemon. Delicious and classic.

  • Pita bread – soft and glossy with oil, perfect for dipping into the tzatziki.

  • Crisps – for the children, crisp and generously seasoned with oregano.

For the main course we shared:

  • Stifado – tender, slow-braised beef in a red wine sauce with small onions. The flavour was deep, intense and full of love.

  • Keftedakia – Greek meatballs in tomato sauce with feta. Simple and good.

  • Moussaka – one of the best we have ever had. Perfectly balanced between aubergine, veal and a silky-smooth béchamel sauce.

The girls had the Barn Pasta – a children’s version with tomato sauce and a little parmesan – and they cleared their plates, which is a seal of quality in itself.

For dessert we shared two scoops of vanilla ice cream and an orange cake – the latter was moist, sweet and with a touch of citrus that rounded off the meal perfectly.

Drinks

We enjoyed two glasses of Xinomavro – a fresh Greek white wine with aromas of peach and citrus (SEK 119 per glass)
And a bottle of Domaine Chablis (SEK 695) with the mains – mineral, elegant and served at the perfect temperature.
The children had Pepsi Max (2 at SEK 42 each)

Value for money

The total bill came to SEK 2,176 for all of us – and for the quality, the atmosphere and the service we received, it was truly excellent value for money. Care had gone into flavour, presentation and attentiveness alike – without anything feeling stiff or overdone.
