Chocolate shavings or chopped chocolate (optional)
Instructions
Put all the ingredients in a bowl and stir well to combine.
Cover and chill in the fridge for at least 2-3 hours – but preferably overnight. You can also mix the ingredients directly in 2 serving glasses with lids. Leave enough room for the topping the next day – that way the oats are easy to take with you, or to grab from the fridge in the morning or for a quick lunch.
Before serving, give the oats a good stir, and adjust the consistency if needed with a little more milk, yogurt or orange juice.Taste, and add more orange zest if you like.
Divide the cocoa oats between 2 serving glasses and top with a couple of tablespoons of yogurt or skyr and, if you like, a few chocolate shavings or some chopped chocolate.
Tips for overnight oats
Overnight oats keep for 4-5 days in the fridge – make sure all the ingredients are fresh.I prefer to make enough for 1-2 days at a time. It takes no time to stir together, and that way I can vary what goes in.
I recommend using jumbo oats, as they give the oats a really pleasing consistency and texture. To my taste, finer rolled porridge oats can turn a little mushy, but that is of course a matter of preference.
